Punta Borinquen Surfing Reserve

We are currently working for the designation of World Surfing Reserve (WSR) of more than five (5) miles of coastline and its surrounding ecological values in the municipality of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Save the Waves Coalition , through an international competition, chooses a WSR annually  based on the quality and consistency of the wave, the environmental characteristics of the proposed area, its cultural and surfing history, and the local capacity and support

The work is being done by an interdisciplinary team that includes the support of the Sea Grant College Program of Puerto Rico, Surfriders Foundation’s Rincón Chapter, Sierra Club’s Puerto Rico Chapter, University of Puerto Rico’s marine sciences student organization AeCIMA, the Pirata Surfing Club, and Patagonia.

If we are chosen, Punta Borinquen (proposed name) would be the 1st World Surfing Reserve of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

Lets hope for the best.
